We study the quantum cosmology of a locally rotationally symmetric vacuum Bianchi type-III minisuperspace model with a non-negative cosmological constant. The quantum state chosen by the Hartle-Hawking proposal corresponds to a particular ensemble of classical Lorentzian spacetimes, most of which have negligible anisotropy. This quantum state ceases, however, to correspond to most of these spacetimes near their singularities. This means that in the Hartle-Hawking quantum state, classical spacetime ceases to be a valid concept near most of the classical singularities of the model.
