Different properties of fast variations of solar wind ion flux and magnetic field in the foreshock region upstream of the Earth's bow shock are considered by using high resolution observations aboard INTERBALL-1 and its subsatellite MAGION-4 during two multiple-hour time intervals. It is shown that large variations of the ion flux and the magnetic field magnitude in the foreshock exist simultaneously, and their relative values (average parameter amplitudes divided by its average value) are close to each other and vary from 0.3 near the bow shock to 0.1 at the outer foreshock boundary. Moreover, both the existence of fast variations and their values are closely associated with the existence of suprathermal ions propagating upstream from the bow shock and their energy spectra. Variations of ion flux observed aboard the satellite and its sub-satellite, situated closely to each other, coincide well for time scales from tens to hundreds of seconds. The most interesting result is the discovery of high positive correlation (on average, 0.75) between the solar wind ion flux and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude in the foreshock. We interpret this correlation as evidence of generation of a fast mode of magnetosonic waves.
