Recent high performance sounding rockets were equipped with control systems so as to reduce impact dispersions. This gain can only be fully realized if deterministic wind and gyro error effects are taken into account in the pre-launch targeting calculations. A perturbation method is developed to facilitate fast pre-launch trajectory simulation, including the autopilot functions, on a medium-size process computer. The program also computes the wind-predicted instantaneous impact point trace for range-safety application. The method was implemented at Esrange for the rockets Aries and Black-Brant Vc with a Saab S19B guidance system. Operational applications are discussed.
