Filtering methods for noisy images are considered. Statistical approaches to this problem are discussed, that are based on a representation of the image as a realization of a random field with a known probability description. Causal filtering of Gaussian fields observed under Gaussian noise and of fields with an arbitrary distribution from incomplete data are considered.
