An examination of direct photographs taken with the Soviet Solar Stratospheric Observatory shows that a general restructuring of solar granulation occurs over an area of 4-6 x 10 to the 8th sq km over a time period of 300 sec (the mean lifetime of granules). The number of granules changes by a factor of 1.4-1.7 and the total granule area changes by a factor of 1.4, while the mean area of the granules changes by a factor of 2 in antiphase with the number of granules.
