The X ray source LMC X-3 was observed by IUE at 1200 to 3000 A. Little contribution to the UV flux from the disk is found. Such a contribution shows up in the optical, when the object is in a high state, and should be significant even in the low state if the reddening is small. The UBV photometry shows this contribution. Results demonstrate the observability of the source with IUE and show the need of simultaneous observations over the whole UV-optical range.
