Maps of W51 in wavebands centred on 32 and 76 μm, and with better than 2 arcmin resolution are presented. A number of discrete H II regions are seen. These data, together with existing measurements in other wavelength regions provide good support for current theories regarding H II region evolution. The distribution and type of source seen in W51 suggest that a process of sequential star formation is responsible for the O stars in the region.
