Far-infrared emission from cool dust associated with the galactic S Doradus variable AG Car has been resolved in a NE-SW direction using a maximum entropy deconvolution technique. The 50 and 100 μm fluxes peak ≡9arcsec from AG Car in the densest part of the ionized ring structure seen around the star. There is no evidence in the far-infrared profiles for other dust complexes out to a radius of 60arcsec from the star. The distances from AG Car at which a variety of dust grain models are in thermal equilibrium with the stellar radiation field have been computed. Different possibilities for the origin of the ring structure around AG Car are discussed; the authors conclude that the ring structure is most likely due to material that was lost by AG Car during a prior evolutionary stage and has subsequently been swept up by the present hot supergiant wind.
