The balloon-borne FIR telescopes erected at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) have been performing various research activities in such diverse areas as planetary atmospheres, Galactic star forming regions, and extragalactic studies. High angular resolution FIR mappings of Galactic sources associated with H II region-molecular cloud complexes have provided new details concerning structure and energetics of young as well as evolved star forming regions. It is shown that young regions are dominated by embedded energy sources, while the evolved regions have more externally heated dust clouds.
