FIR data from the IRAS all-sky survey and published Effelsberg 11-cm radio maps are investigated statistically for the nearby galaxies M31, M33, M101, and IC 342. The results of correlation studies are presented in graphs and tables and briefly discussed. From the close correlations found between the FIR and radio-continuum intensities within the galactic disks it is inferred that the distribution of the synchrotron emission and the cool dust follows that of the stellar disk, that star-formation rates have not varied significantly over the last 100 Myr, and that star formation and the amplification of interstellar magnetic fields must be triggered by the same mechanism: a model involving differential rotation is proposed.
