The binary-collision-induced FIR rototranslational spectra of nonpolar gases and mixtures are characterized, reviewing the results of recent experimental and theoretical investigations. The physical and astrophysical importance of these spectra is discussed, and consideration is given to induced dipole moments, line shapes and temperature variations, the classical multipole model of induced dipoles, computed profiles, and the scope of future research.
