This paper reviews the progress made in the implementation of several statistical processing procedures to perform the detailed image analysis. These include the performance of a thresholding scheme based on the use of a simple image statistic; a stochastic relaxation and simulated annealing approach; and finally, the application of an artificial neural network with a training scheme based on known attributes of the feature of interest. These image analysis procedures are being applied to a sequence of synthetic images of known signal-to-noise characteristics and to astronomical images acquired with the PARG CCD camera.
