Planetary Nebulae: General

Scientific paper

New monochromatic observations are reported for some compact planetary nebulae (PNs) having catalogued diameters of about , and which were carried out through narrow-band interference filters, with the photon counting camera in the direct imaging mode at the f/36 focus of the Canada-Franc&Hawaii 3.60 meter telescope. Two objects of larger diameters, He 1-5 (around FG Sge) and M 2-9, were also imaged through 10 Å wide filters (Hα and [NII]6583) at the f/25 focus of the Pic-du-Midi Bernard Lyot telescope using the RCA CCD detector. Absolute fluxes in emission lines are measured for the whole nebular extensions detected, and ionized masses tentatively computed using the present values of the radii measured on the Hα frames.
