Results are reported for low-resolution transmission-grating slitless spectroscopy of high-redshift objects in overlapping field covering a total of 5 sq deg around declination -40 deg, which was performed at the prime focus of a 4-m telescope over the wavelength range from about 4000 to 6910 A. In all, 76 emission-line QSO candidates with B magnitudes of 17 to 21 and redshifts of 1.6 to 3.5 were detected; 51 of these are classified as most probable, 16 as probable, and nine as possible emission-line QSOs. Known sources of bias are discussed, including emission lines, redshifts, and radio emission. Magnitude and redshift limits in the sample are also examined. The results are shown to verify that the projected space density of optically selected high-redshift emission-line OSOs increases steeply as a function of magnitude and that there is a range of at least 5 magnitudes in the continuum flux from QSOs near a redshift of 2. It is noted that the percentage of objects with redshifts greater than 3 in the sample does not appear to increase as the search is extended to fainter magnitudes.
