New understanding on star evolution, specially on massive star evolution and on late stages of stellar evolution, makes the evolutionary population synthesis a more reliable tool for the study of galaxy evolution. The discovery of the starburst phenomena, on the other hand, gives some hint on the early evolution of galaxies and also makes the population synthesis simpler. The number count excess was mostly pronounced in B band and no excess in K band. At intermediate redshift z ≍ 1, B band corresponds to the ultraviolet radiation in the rest frame which is sensitive to the young massive stars, while K band radiation is mainly contributed by an old population. Therefore it is reasonable to assume that we are looking at a population of starbursting dwarfs. With this basic assumption it is easy to estimate the total mass of young star population.
