Given two linear relations $A$ and $B$ we characterize the existence of a
linear relation (operator) $C$ such that $A\subseteq BC$, respectively
$A\subseteq CB.$ These factorizations extend and improve well-known results by
R.G. Douglas and Z. Sebesty\'en.
