The article reviews the atomic and molecular f-values currently needed to determine solar abundances. The abundances of chemical elements in stellar objects are discussed along with a photospheric model, local thermodynamic equilibrium, line opacity, and spectrum synthesis. The oscillator strengths required for small astrophysical models are described, and various problems encountered in stellar spectroscopy are outlined.
