A multistatic incoherent scatter radar based in England has provided comparative data for the analysis of F-region electron and ion temperatures measured by four scientific satellites. Radar-measured temperatures are found to be in good agreement with data obtained by the AE-C and the Isis-B satellites; however, a systematic discrepancy with data from the ESRO-4 satellite, as well as a large divergence from an AEROS electron temperature observation, is noted. Radar-measured temperatures from widely separated sites have proved highly consistent, suggesting that incoherent scatter radar data provide reliable F-region temperature assessments.
