Extreme cycles of the Chandler motion of the pole of the earth have been detected. It is found that they consist of the phases of "growth" and "damping". Parameters (a, α) characterizing the resonance mechanism of the excitation of the motion of the pole of the earth are different for different cycles, and the parameters β of the phase of damping are practically constant. This suggests the non-stationary character of the mechanism of the excitation and the constant character of the process of the relaxation of the motion of the pole of the earth.
