The observations and conclusions of a recent paper by Papagiannis are examined and shown to be inconsistent if the effects on an intelligent society of the technology of interstellar flight are considered. The economics of an interstellar vessel are examined and it is suggested that colonization of planetary systems by interstellar visitors is unlikely. A model of interstellar expansion by means of self-sufficient vessels is proposed instead of the currently popular, but paradox-ridden, model of a wave of expeditions occupying planetary systems.
