The nature of the dark energy, which causes the acceleration of the universe, is one of the long standing mysteries in the contemporary cosmology. The nature of the dark energy is categorized by the equation of state w(z), therefore, the precise measurement of the dark energy equation of state leads to better understanding of its nature. This is one of the main motivations for the HETDEX, and for that purpose, we need to measure the dark energy equation of state in the precision that no one has ever achieved. To achieve the projected precision of the HETDEX, accurate extraction of the Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) from the matter power spectrum is crucial for the accurate determination of the Hubble parameter H(z) and the angular distance DA(z) thereby the equation of state for the dark energy w(z).
I present a new BAO extraction method "FITEX” (Koehler et al. 2007). The FIT and EXtract (FITEX) method is an alternative to the theoretical extraction of the BAO. FITEX method fits the non-oscillatory part of the matter power spectrum with the phenomenological fitting function, and extracts the BAO from the residual.
The flexibility of the FITEX fitting function is tested for the various non-linear and redshift-space distortions, together with the empirical baryon transfer function (Eisenstein & Hu 1998) for the large scale (k < 1.0 Mpc-1) in the relevant redshift bins to the HETDEX (2 < z < 4).
Also, I present the result of the FITEX applied to two dimensional non-linear and redshift-space distorted power spectrum. In the two dimensional power spectrum, parallel and perpendicular k-modes are disentangled, and therefore, H(z) and DA(z) can be extracted independently; the independent determination of H(z) and DA(z) is of prime importance to the accurate determination of the dark energy equation of state.
