It is shown that Waterman's T-matrix approach can be used to analytically average the extinction matrix over an ensemble of nonspherical grains axially aligned in the interstellar magnetic field. The morphology of the grains proves fairly realistic: homogeneous and layered spheroids, finite cylinders, Chebyshev particles, etc. The method developed is simple and efficient and makes it possible to correctly interpret a broad class of observations of interstellar extinction and linear and circular polarization.
