We prove a Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence for extensions of Higgs bundles.
The results generalize known results for extensions of holomorphic bundles.
Using Simpson's methods, we construct moduli spaces of stable objects. In an
appendix we construct Bott-Chern forms for Higgs bundles
