Progress in understanding explosive hydrogen burning in novae is reviewed. A brief quantitative overview of the abundance analysis of nova ejecta is given, and updated reaction rates for proton captures on unstable nuclei during hydrogen burning are presented and discussed for various isotopes. Based on these improved rates and other changes, a general discussion is given of explosive hydrogen burning and nucleosynthesis for conditions which might prevail in nova events. An application to different nova models is discussed.
