Concordes in flight produce low-frequency shock waves, and the monitoring of these waves provides information on the structure of the upper atmosphere. The low-frequency shock waves are characterized, and the detection and interpretation of shock wave data are discussed. Probing of the stratosphere and of the thermosphere is described, and data on sound ray paths are presented.
