The origin, structure and evolution of magnetic fields in cosmic objects (stars, galaxies and their clusters) still are not well understood. A present knowledge about regular magnetic fields is restricted to nearby and bright galaxies and it comes from a detection of radio synchrotron emission, its polarization and Faraday rotation. A high sensitivity and broad bandwidth of Square Kilometer Array (SKA) and Low Frequency Array (LOFAR) will allow the all-sky survey of Faraday rotation measures at 1.4 GHz to be performed which will be used to model the structure and strength of the magnetic fields in the intergalactic medium, the interstellar medium of intervening galaxies and of the Milky Way. Spectro-polarimetry and polarization observations with the SKA and LOFAR will allow the 3-D ‘Faraday tomography' of the interstellar medium of the Milky Way to be performed and the fine structure of weak magnetic fields in the halos of galaxies, in galaxy clusters and in the intergalactic medium to be mapped at low radio frequencies. At high frequencies (> 1 GHz), the SKA will be capable to map the detailed magnetic field structure within the disks and central regions of galaxies, with much higher sensitivity and angular resolution compared to present-day radio telescopes.
