Results are presented and discussed for an experimental study of anomalous radio-wave absorption and substantial (up to 7 Hz) Doppler broadening of the reflected signal when high-power radio waves at the electron gyrofrequency (1.35 MHz) are incident on the F region of the ionosphere. The anomalous absorption is shown to be associated with the parametric excitation of plasma waves. The observed Doppler broadening indicates that artificial inhomogeneities moving relative to the reflection level with velocities of the order of hundreds of meters per sec are generated in the region where the high-power waves interact.
