Existing experimental limits allow for forces in nature millions of times stronger than gravity at length scales as large as several microns. Recently a number of predictions of new effects in this range have been put forward, including the possible signatures of extra dimensions. We report on the progress of an experiment in our laboratory, which is designed to be sensitive to much of the parameter space for these predictions. Our experiment uses 1 kilohertz mechanical oscillators as test masses with a stiff conducting shield in between them to suppress backgrounds, and is presently limited by thermal noise.
