Fourier transform spectra from nickel-argon and iron-neon hollow-cathode lamps are used to investigate isotopic shifts in the transitions 3d8(3F)4p-3d7 4s2 of Ni II and 3d6(5D)4p-3d5 4s2 of Fe II. After subtraction of the normal mass shifts from the observed transition shifts, the residual transition shifts between even isotopes are of the order of 100 mK. For both nickel and iron, the measured isotopic shifts are negative, i.e., the heavier isotope is shifted towards smaller wavenumbers.
