A cryogenic refractometer, designed to measure refractive indices, is described. The device induces two main parts: a cryostat for liquefying and mixing constituents under known proportions, and an optical set up for measuring the refractive index of a liquid. Results of processes to determine the refractive indices of pure and mixed methane and ethane with and without dissolved nitrogen are given.
