Cometary Plasma
Scientific paper
Results of research on the interaction of the solar wind with gaseous obstacles, which are the atmospheres of planets and comets, are described from a unique point of view. It is shown that with such interaction there results a specific plasma formation - a mantle, the boundary between which and the solar wind is distinctly marked. Possible physical mechanisms leading to the formation of an abrupt boundary between a mantle and the external flux are discussed. The mantle formed on the day side is topologically connected to the plasma tail.
