The procedure described was used to prepare 1:5,000,000 and 1:500,000 geological-geomorphological maps of the Martian surface on the basis of photographs of the Erythrean Mare region obtained by Mars 4 and Mars 5. The area under consideration consists of complex rock species that were formed during various ages of the Martian geological history. The interpreted photographs were used to prepare analytical maps of crater lineaments and a morphological classification of craters as a basis for a synthetic geomorphological map. The latter contains data on the morphology and the presumable nature of the observed relief configurations.
