Cosmic Rays, Particle-Theory And Field-Theory Models Of The Early Universe

Scientific paper

Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays events beyond the theoretical cutoff of 1019 eV have been detected by several experiments. Nevertheless we do not know any potential astronomical source which could accelerate particles to those energies. We discuss new ideas for the production of these events, the so called ``top-down'' mechanisms, which involve exotic relics of the early universe.
