The EXOSAT mission of the European Space Agency is discussed. General mission requirements are summarized, and the scientific payload is outlined. The satellite design is described, including the general configuration, key subsystem features, the mechanical subsystems, the thermal control concept, attitude and orbit control, the electrical power subsystems, the telecommunications equipment, and the data-handling subsystem. System qualification and testing procedures are briefly noted.
