The intriguing population of optically invisible X-ray sources (EXO's) detected in recent years offers the best opportunity to directly constrain the number counts of moderate-luminosity active galactic nuclei (AGN) at redshifts 6-7 and above. Some of these sources can also be described by old, evolved galaxies at redshifts 3-5, which is equally interesting since such galaxies would have had to begin forming very early in the history of the universe. I will present the latest results from the GOODS Spitzer survey program, as well as X-ray, optical and near-IR observations, to help disentangle the redshift/reddening degeneracy and use the results to constrain the growth and number density of supermassive black holes at high redshift.
