Chandler polar motion is excited by the resonant effect of atmospheric processes associated with the ENSO phenomenon. This phenomenon modulates the amplitudes of the annual harmonics of the chi1, chi2, and chi3 components of the effective function of the atmospheric angular momentum. More often than not, the ENSO phenomenon repeats every 6 yr. Therefore the beat period of chi1, chi2, and chi3 is approximately 6 yr. chi1, chi 2, and chi3 are the sum of two oscillations with periods of 1 and 1.2 yr. Resonances close to the Chandler period are inherent not only in the earth-atmosphere system but in the solar system as well.
