Spectacular results obtained within the brief operating span of the first astronomical Netherlands satellite (ANS) are reported and discussed. Two enormous X-ray outbursts were detected on Sept. 28, 1975 from the globular cluster NGC 6624. The incongruity of this level of activity with the presumed age of the cluster, speculation on a black hole at the cluster center, and financial considerations dictating perhaps premature aborting of the satellite experiment are discussed. Three new types of X-ray sources are discerned: dwarfs radiating in prodigious outbursts in the visual and X-ray regions, the corona of the white dwarf in the Sirius binary system (emitting soft X-rays), and dwarf novas forming a binary system with cooler companions. X-ray and UV instrumentation of ANS is described.
