Measurements of solar radiation made at Mauna Loa Observatory were examined, particularly in the context of their use in monitoring the atmospheric particle burden. The two main concerns were: (1) internal consistency in the spectral detail of the measurements of both the absorptive and the scattering attenuation of solar radiation by atmospheric particles and (2) the solar constant and its spectral detail.
