An exact analytical expression is obtained for the coefficient of reflection of solar radiation from a plane-parallel semi-infinite planetary atmosphere (e.g., the Venus atmosphere) for the case of a four-term phase function. This exact solution along with the similarity relation are used to develop an approximate method for determining the intensities of diffusely reflected radiation at the upper boundary of the atmosphere, these intensities being independent of height, phase function, and photon survival probability.
