The morphology of total eclipses in the dwarf nova EX Hya shows that the 67-min cycle in this system is caused by periodic variations in the luminosity of the bright spot. This can be explained either by modulated mass transfer arising from pulsations of the cool component of the binary system, or by beamed emission from the white dwarf if it has a rotation period of 40 min.
