The theoretical dependence of the mass-to-luminosity ratio on the initial mass function is obtained for the stellar population of galaxies of different morphological types by evolutionary population synthesis. The evolution of the mass-to-luminosity ratio is calculated for elliptical galaxies. The theoretical dependence of the mass-to-luminosity ratio on the B-V colour for spiral galaxies is compared with empirical data and with other authors' models.
