An analysis is made of the rotation of a dynamically symmetric rigid body with a passive flywheel in the presence of viscous friction and an elastic connection. An analytical dependence of the nutation angle on time is obtained in the first approximation of the averaging method. Optimal damper parameters assuring the most rapid reduction of the nutation are found. It is shown that the optimal choice of the parameters of the elastic connection leads to a considerable improvement in the damping efficiency.
