The VIMOS VLT Deep Survey (VVDS) is an ongoing program dedicated to the study of the evolution of galaxies and AGNs in connection to the large-scale structures over more than 90% of the life of the universe. The majority of VVDS spectra being of relatively low signal-to-noise (S/N), the measurement of spectral features (absorption and emission lines, breaks, etc) in the individual spectra is subject to substantial uncertainties. This paper presents the preliminary study of the average spectral evolution, from z˜2 to the local universe, of different galaxy populations using high S/N composite spectra per galaxy colour type (from red ellipticals to blue irregulars) and luminosity classes.
