Based on observations of AGB stars associated with 1612 MHz OH masers, the evolution of the double peak spectra for 1612 MHz OH maser emission is studied from a model, in which the mass loss rates varied with time on the AGB. The theoretical relations between the OH shell radius R0 and the mass loss rate M˙ and between the OH maser luminosity LOH and M are also obtained. These relations are in agreement with empirical relations established from observation. The model also indicates that the OH emission can last over 100 - 500 years after the termination of the AGB. This timescale can be regarded as the lifetime of the OHPN phase.
