The conventional model for the interaction of Mars with the solar wind does not explain Mars-5 observations of disturbed plasma parameters during 15 February 1974. It is inferred from the data that Deimos cast a corpuscular shadow on the spacecraft during the disturbances, a fact which allows one to conclude that there occurs a strong interaction of Deimos with the solar wind. Two possible reasons for the corpuscular shadow are discussed: (1) strong outgassing from the surface of Deimos and the formation of a comet-like gaseous envelope, and (2) the existence of a remanent magnetic field on the surface of Deimos with a strength of about 1 G.
