THERE is a definite correlation1,2 between abundances and neutron capture cross-sections of a certain class of heavy nuclei, that is, of nuclei above the iron abundance peak. This correlation demonstrates that these nuclei must have been formed in a neutron capture process with a time scale slow compared with β-decay times (the s-process).
