We have analyzed the clustering properties of Lyα forest lines in an H I column-density-limited sample over the redshift range z = 2.7-3.7. The sample has a relatively large lower cutoff column density (Nc ≥ 1014 cm-2) and is based on published high resolution spectra of three distant QSOs (0014 + 813, 0420-388, 2000-330). Two statistical tools (distribution of line intervals and two-point correlation function) were applied to reveal the presence of small-scale clustering with velocity splitting ˜50-150 km s-1 at better than the 3 σ level. The importance of such clustering for theoretical models of the Lyα forest is briefly discussed.
