Current models of the sun are based on the belief that the solar photosphere can be treated as a sparse gas. In this presentation, seven pieces of evidence will be advanced which support the notion that the photosphere is best seen as a high density material which is liquid plasma in nature. Evidence is as follows: 1) the sun is in violation of Kirchhoff's Law of thermal emission and its continuous spectrum reflects a condensed state with a lattice structure, not a gaseous state, 2) the sun (and the Jovian planets), has an average density which easily supports the condensed state, 3) helioseismological experiments reveal surface gravity waves on the sun and seismology is a science of the condensed state, 4) the sun has a distinct surface as demonstrated in recent high resolution images obtained by the Swedish Solar Telescope 5) the surface of the sun is boiling (a characteristic of a liquid -- not a gas), 6) certain stars, namely Achernar, display a highly elliptical structure, not consistent with the Roche-model, and 7) the sun clearly possesses a corona which is a gaseous plasma in equilibrium with a photosphere which is a liquid plasma.
