Salyut 4 and 6 spectrometer measurements at 0.4-0.8 micron are used to analyze the dependence of the spectral density of the radiance of natural surface features on the solar zenith angle. The experimental data are compared with results of numerical calculations of outgoing radiation from the upper boundary of the atmosphere on the basis of a plane-parallel model of the atmosphere with a reflecting bottom. The dependence of the intensity of this outgoing radiation and of the irradiance of the earth's surface on the cosine of the solar zenith angle is shown to be quasi-linear. The contrast of the earth's surface at the upper atmospheric boundary decreases as the solar zenith angle increases.
