An equation is presented for the nonstationary (in the general case) motion of a gas in a spherically symmetric gravitational field. A solution corresponding to the steady-state radial flow of the medium is analyzed. It is shown that the characteristic time of existence of a planet atmosphere depends exponentially on a parameter determined by the ratio of the product of gravity acceleration and planet radius to the temperature of the atmosphere.
